What is an Armour-bearer?
|
In biblical days, an armor-bearer was one who actually carried the shield and
armor of his leader as he went into battle, often acting as his personal
assistant. For example, King Saul had several armor-bearers assigned to him.
The term armor-bearer was originally translated from the Hebrew word, nasa,
meaning to figuratively or literally lift up, support or simply help.
On occasion, Bible translators have translated the word, "help", from the
Hebrew word, nasa. In light of these defining terms, we can see an
armor-bearer is one that helps or supports the arms of an assigned leader
during the times of battle.
A modern day armor-bearer is one called chosen by the leader to serve and
help in life, ministry, and especially in this spiritual fight. An armor-bearer is
called to attend to, minister to, care for, help, be of use, assist, benefit,
promote, support, make easy for, nourish, and encourage their leader.
The attitude of an armor-bearer is one of servant-hood. The mindset of an
armor-bearer is to do what it takes to serve and support their leader. Some
qualities an armour-bearer should possess are: servant-hood, commitment,
attentiveness, support, help, loyalty, and faithfulness.
Being an armor-bearer is fulfilling a ministry of help, watchfulness, and
intercession on behalf of leadership. Armour-bearers must have clean hands
spiritually and must constantly remain in a state of repentance; always being
mindful of their shortcomings that God may deliver them each and every day so
they are suited properly to serve the leader.
Armour-bearers support their leaders in spirit and body. They not only pray for
their leaders, but are practical in their service.
Serve to their benefit. Our society has become a self-centered world. Go
against the natural flow; let your service be to the benefit of your leaders.
Armour-bearers are to be those who nourish and encourage their leaders.
They are to protect their leaders at all times and follow the instruction of the
leader.
An armour-bearer is a special position of becoming a servant. An
Armour-bearer must put aside pride and serve with a humble heart, not
wanting to be seen, but wanting to please God in all that they do to assist the
leader they have been chosen to serve.
